What is Astragalus Extract?

Astragalus propinquus (syn. Astragalus membranaceus, commonly known as Mongolian milkvetch in English, is a flowering plant in the family Fabaceae. It is one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is a perennial plant and it is not listed as being threatened. Chemical constituents of the roots (Radix Astragali) include polysaccharides and triterpenoids (such as astragalosides), as well as isoflavones (including kumatakenin, calycosin, and formononetin) and their glycosides and malonates. An extract of a propinquus called TA-65 may activate telomerase, extending the lengths of the shortest telomeres which protect the terminal DNA at the ends of all chromosomes. It contains the saponin cycloastragenol.

Functions and Applications of Astragalus Extract:

Astragalus membranaceus extract has protective effects on hippocampal neuron injury induced by β-amyloid peptide (Aβ).

Astragalus injection can effectively alleviate the symptoms of high altitude nephrotic syndrome, improve the pathology of renal tissue, and reduce the damage of inflammatory cells to the kidney.

Astragalus membranaceus also has a relaxing effect on vascular smooth muscle; the function of sex hormones can significantly increase the bone density of the osteoporosis model induced by retinoic acid in rats, and enhance the ability to resist external impact;

Application

Astragalus contains many chemical components and has a wide range of pharmacological effects.

It is widely used clinically to treat diseases such as circulation, nerves, digestion, respiration, endocrine and blood system.
